RT Rating

Martinez is at the top of her game. Her writing sparkles in this exceptionally well-written suspense novel featuring sexy, sharp federal prosecutor Melanie Vargas. Plotting, character and pacing are expertly done. Martinez paints a vivid picture of the rap and gangster lifestyle and the lawyers who defend and prosecute those whose lyrics often depict real-life crimes.

Famous criminal defense attorney Lester Poe wants to work out a deal with Melanie where his client, popular rapper Atari Briggs, who's accused of arranging a hit, is charged with a lesser crime in exchange for providing the government with information about a terrorist funneling heroin into the country.

But when Lester is killed in a car bombing in front of Melanie, the prosecutor -- grieving and armed with dangerous information -- embarks on a harrowing mission to find the killer and to piece together clues that lead to the famous rapper and a notoriously dangerous vendetta.
