OATH OF FEALTY
This is a must-read for fans of Moon's Paksenarrion stories from 20 years ago. There's a brief synopsis of the tale to date, just enough to refresh the memory, but thanks to a skillful, subtle weaving of backstory, newcomers won't be left out. Moon was a good storyteller 20 years ago. Now she is excellent, and this is
a thoroughly entertaining read.
Elf king Kieri must win the loyalty of the citizens of his new country. After a failed assassination plot, Dorrin -- the sole innocent member of the Verrakai family -- must try to make things right in her home province. And Captain Arcolin must not only assume command of Kieri's former mercenary company but also govern Kieri's former lands. For all three, alliances are shifting, and fealty must come from previously unknown allies. Paksenarrion will help where she can, but the paladin has been called to other tasks by Gird.
