THE OCEAN BETWEEN US
Genre: Contemporary Romance 2004 Best Contemporary Novel (with Romantic Elements) Nominee Wiggs is at the top of her game with her latest, a tremendously moving story that elicits both laughter and tears at regular intervals. Not to be missed, especially in these times. Twenty long years as a Navy wife has left Grace Bennett's love for her husband, Steve, undiminished. Yet the endless separations, the sacrifices and the simple passage of time have taken a toll. Cracks in the foundation appear just shy of Grace's 40th birthday and worsen when a devastating secret from Steve's past comes to light. The situation explodes when Steve fails to take Grace's need for a real home and a career of her own seriously; they're barely speaking when he's deployed, which makes the horrific accident that follows very difficult for Grace to take. All she can do is pray for a chance to make things right—a slim hope at best. (Apr., 384 pp., $19.95) Reviewed By: Catherine Witmer Publisher: Mira Published: April 2004 |
