Though this novel spins the typical tale of opposites attracting, it had potential to stand out with its unique twist on two people from different sides of the tracks finding common ground. However, the issues that plague the couple are never really resolved, and aside from proclaiming their love, the couple’s lack of communication is never addressed. Fortunately, the lead characters have depth and dimension that readers will find relatable.

Skye McDermott is a restaurant manager in Las Vegas who grew up on a commune and believes in the power of fate. Tim O’Shay is a captain in the Marines who believes in order and following the rules. One drunk night in Vegas results in a wedding. Rather than settling for a quick annulment, the two decide to give their marriage a fighting chance. (SOURCEBOOKS, Jul., 352 pp., $6.99)
