That Old Black Magic is a fun mystery that has plenty of twists and turns and a strong lead character who, anytime she’s around, makes the story come alive. The momentum takes a little while to pick up, but once the murder takes place the story begins to move. The extensive cast of characters offers many murder suspects, but it’s hard to get to know each of them. This isn’t the last Piper Donovan book this reviewer will read.

Cake decorator and aspiring actress Piper Donovan has been awarded the opportunity to travel to New Orleans to perfect her decorating skills under the tutelage of renowned bakery Boulangerie Bertrand.
