THE ONCE AND FUTURE PRINCE (3) by Olivia Gates: Phoebe Alexander is the king's messenger, and she's come to New York to bring Leandro D'Agostino his fondest wish: reinstatement of his title and citizenship to Castaldini in return for coming home and becoming Crown Prince. Before he was exiled, Phoebe and Leandro had been involved in a clandestine affair and, as a condition of his return, Leandro demands Phoebe continue their affair out in the open. She agrees, knowing he won't marry her when he takes the throne, and she'll be able to move on with her life then. Gates' tale is a bit complicated. It's hard to follow the story at first, and both protagonists veer from weak to demanding in what is otherwise an intriguing story.

The Once & Future Prince is a story set in a fictional kingdom in the midst of upheaval. Castaldini needs a new king and Leandro is the best choice. That's the background.
The real story is about two people rebuilding a relationship that once fractured and tore both of them apart. Coming together again to save the kingdom, these two people Leandro and Phoebe, learn to trust both each other and themselves and learn how to live with openness and maturity.
The secondary characters in this story are great, especially Ernesto, the man who has looked after Leandro since he was orphaned.
An extremely intense and tender read as always with Olivia Gates.
