Cheryl Wolverton's ONCE UPON A CHOCOLATE KISS (4) begins with a humorous collision between clumsy candy store owner Samantha Hampton and Richard Reilly Moore, heir to a world-renowned candy store. Richard, who has been searching for answers to his life, finds one the first time he sees Sam. With a broken ankle from their meeting, he decides to take a leave of absence from work and rents the apartment over Sam's store. Though Richard tries, he never reveals to her that he's opening the grand candy store that she's referred to as the "devil's playground." The characters are endearing—Richard with his British accent and Sam, who takes care of Granny. The fairy-tale ending may be too much for some and a delight to others.
