The Scandal series continues as Marvelle gives the traditional theme of “second chance at love” a new, heated twist. More leisurely paced than the previous book, this second offering showcases Marvelle’s ability to heat up the pages while creating a tender love story that touches the heart.

Years ago a very young Viscount Remington, Jonathan Pierce Thatcher, pledged himself to Lady Victoria Jane Emerson. Though she wanted to marry him, Victoria could not accept his proposal before Jonathan left for Venice. Their relationship blossomed through letters, giving Victoria hope. Then the letters stopped and her broken heart hardened. With her father sinking into madness, she must find a husband.

Jonathan returns to England to find he is one of three men chosen to woo Victoria. He begins a campaign to melt the ice princess. But once hurt, twice shy Victoria will have no vows of love, so he resorts to seducing her mind and body — demonstrating that sexuality is as much intellectual as physical, until Victoria begins to succumb. But he has much to overcome before he can truly make her his wife. (HQN, Feb., 380 pp., $7.99)
