When Jayden is forced to return to the town she fled more than a decade earlier to care for her orphaned nephews, the young veterinarian quickly gets embroiled in the town's problems with a militia group when her tenant goes missing and is thought
to be dead. Attracted to Luke, the public defender who must represent the suspected murderer, Jayden is wary. She suspects Luke of secretly working for the militia. Suzanne Cox's One Man to Protect Them (4) is an interesting and well-told tale. Luke is a compelling character, in spite of his possible ties to some evil men, and Jayden is multifaceted and loyal.
