This light read is pleasant and entertaining, although the main characters seem a little juvenile for their age and positions of responsibility. This two-for-one plot sees our hero as both a cowboy and a military man deployed in Afghanistan. The secondary characters are nicely set up for a book of their own.

Becca is a city girl teaching at a prestigious New York university when her job is downsized. Her busybody sister secretly submits Becca’s résumé to a state college in Oklahoma. Becca is surprised when she gets a call from the university, but by then is desperate for a job and goes for an interview. Egged on by her sister, Becca goes to a rodeo and has a one-night stand with a bull-riding cowboy. Imagine her surprise when the cowboy shows up at her welcome mixer weeks later; he is an ROTC instructor at the college. Tuck hasn’t forgotten the night he spent with Becca and is furious that she didn’t indicate that she was moving to Oklahoma, or keep in touch. But Tuck is a pro at holding on ...
