Private investigator Mark Kincaid is hired to find a client's sister, who was put up for adoption as a baby after an accident killed their parents. He finds himself battling an attraction to the woman. He's unsure if Carrie St. John shares his feelings, or if she's confusing gratitude with something deeper. Janice Kay Johnson deals well with the difficult issues surrounding adoption in Open Secret (3). Her characters are well drawn, but they meet and hit it off rather quickly. It seems as if there should be more tension between Carrie and her sister.
