Starting with a cliche -- a woman loses her husband suddenly and discovers that he had another wife -- Shirley Jump's The Other Wife (4.5) quickly becomes anything but trite. When Penny Reynolds finds out the day before her husband's funeral that Dave had a second wife, it's only one of many shocks. An accountant needing complete control of her life, she thought their marriage was very happy, undisturbed by either children or animals. After the surprise of Susan, the other woman, Penny also learns that Dave owned a very special dog. And that's just the beginning, as she and Susan take off on a road trip to uncover the truth. Whenever the future seems clear, there's a fascinating twist. Filled with humor and heart, this is a wonderful book. By the end, Penny has found a wonderful new life and a wonderful new self.
