This sci-fi adventure is slow to get started, but once it does, the story is intriguing enough to stand on its own as a sci-fi novel. It’s slightly hindered by an over-reliance on plot points from the previous three books in the series that aren’t always explained and sex scenes that don’t always take advantage of the ménage à quatre setup: Often, some of the foursome seem included as an afterthought. The romance and the story are the standouts here, and worth the read apart from the sex scenes.

Dr. Emilia Hypatia and her three husbands — Aaron, Caph and Ford — are assigned to the Tamora Bight, a spaceship that explores the galaxy. When a temporary crew member is assigned to their ship, Emi’s empath training tells her the new crew member is up to no good, but Aaron, Caph and Ford aren’t sure if it’s simply because Emi’s never encountered this race before. Emi’s right, but can her husbands save her in time? (SIRENPUBLISHING.COM, dl $7.50)
