FROM OUT OF THE BLUE
When Kate Jones takes a leave of absence from the Navy to fight a life-threatening illness, she decides to track down her son's father to tell him that he has a child -- just in case the worst happens to her. Mitchell McCray is happy to see Kate again -- he's never forgotten their night together -- but he's shocked to learn he has a child, and even more dismayed that Kate is suffering from cancer. In From Out of the Blue (4), Nadia Nichols intelligently depicts characters faced with serious illness. The way Kate tries to get her life together and tie up loose ends while she's still well enough to do so is very realistic, as is Mitch's reaction to it.
