Elizabeth August entertains us with PATERNAL INSTINCTS (3). When a battered ex-agent who temporarily married a distressed cashier in order to adopt a little boy is threatened by his past, their survival hinges on their developing love. While a longer length would have provided more opportunity for character development and relationship growth, Ms. August captures reader attention with an intriguing storyline, strong passion and a dash of mysticism.
