This 1999 RITA award winner for best Inspirational Romance, initially published as a secular novel, has been reissued for the Christian Book Association. Readers will find it slow-paced, with a weak conflict and predictable plot, but Ms. Hatchers strong characterizations redeem it to a great extent.

Inga Linberg leaves the security of her family to go work at Dirk Bridgers farm. His mother is ill and he is unable to care for his brothers two children. Its not what Dirk had planned for his life, having visions of grandeur and traveling, but its the hand he has been dealt. And until the children are older, he will remain on the farm and fulfill his duty.

Inga has fallen in love with Dirk but when his mother passes away, she must leave the farm. When he proposes a marriage of convenience, she agrees, hoping his feelings will change. But he only has one goal in mind. Will Dirk leave in pursuit of it, or will Inga win his heart? (Mar., 320 pp., $10.99)
