A PENNY URNED

Author(s):

Antique dealer Abby Timberlake recieves two shocks on the same day. She learns that she had an aunt in Savannah, Lula Mae Wiggins, who recently died in a tub full of champagne, and that Lula Mae left her entire estate to her. Within hours, Abby, her nutty mother Mozelle, and her slightly cracked friends C.J. and Wynnell find themselves en route to Savannah.

Once they arrive, the strangest things start to happen. Wynnell takes up with a group of Japanese tourists; C.J. thinks she may have been impregnated by a porpoise; and Mozelle and Abby meet Diamond, who may or may not be a voodoo priestess.

In spite of these distractions, Abby is determined to find out more about Lula Mae. She gets more than she bargained for because she discovers there are skeletons aplenty in the Wiggins closetand that Lula Mae might have been helped out of this world.

A PENNY URNED is an engaging read that will have you laughing out loud. Myers has created some delightfully offbeat characters that will win your heart and make you yearn for more of Abbys misadventures. (Sep., 288 pp., $6.50)
