THE P.I. CONTEST (4.5) by C.J. Carmichael: After she realizes that her fiance is cheating, NYPD cop Kate Cooper resigns from the force to join the Fox and Fisher Detective Agency and work for her friend, Lindsay Fox. Nathan Fisher's friend, pilot Jay Savage, decides to change careers at the same time so he can spend more time with his nephew. Their desire for the same position has Kate and Jay competing to solve a case and score the job. Carmichael spins a wonderfully entertaining and humorous tale. Her characters are delightful, and her use of a contest to fuel the story is a fresh idea.
