This compelling foray into the hearts and minds of a young couple thrown into an unusual situation is an exciting, well-paced romantic read. Mick seems a little selfish at first, but soon redeems himself. The bad guy is really bad, which adds tension to the story.
When Mick’s father dies, the reading of the will goes as expected: He inherits the family sheep farm. But no one expects the codicil that would give the farm to his childhood sweetheart should he decide to sell. Although she nursed both his parents through their final days, Kate is shocked by the news.
Intent on continuing his life in Dublin, Mick hires a foreman to run the farm. But Flannery is not quite what he seems, and a series of mysterious circumstances draw the couple closer together as they fight a common enemy. Just when the pair feels as though they are truly connected, a woman arrives from Dublin with some news for Mick. (HIGHLAND, Jan., 268 pp., $12.49)
