In this tribute to women battling breast cancer, Ms. Dawson unites three unlikely women as friends. The Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation
is a place where breast cancer patients receive funds raised from the sale of used wedding dresses. Grace Hardeman, who is fighting the disease herself, is helping at one such sale when she is eyewitness to a fight between Dr. Justin Skipworth and his girlfriend Holly Weeks. Holly is reluctant to marry because of her fear that she, like her mother, will succumb to breast cancer at a young age. Maggie Prescott is also witness to the angry spat as she's in the bathroom when Holly enters to escape Justin's prying questions.

The unlikely trio becomes fast friends over multiple outings that almost always conclude with sharing a chocolate dessert. As they share their laughter and tears, the women learn that they must face the cards life deals them and are strong enough to do so thanks to their friendship. Poignant moments, treasured female relationships, and enduring love are but a few elements that make this novel another Dawson treat. (Aug., 384 pp., $6.99)
