PLAIN ADMIRER (4) by Patricia Davids: Joann Yoder is devastated to lose her job at Miller Press and shocked to learn that she is expected to train her replacement, Roman Weaver. Due to an injury, Roman can no longer work on his family’s sawmill. Roman has no idea that his employment has displaced Joann and cost her the house of her dreams. She finds some solace in an anonymous pen pal that she acquires unexpectedly. How will she feel when she discovers his identity? A descriptive setting and characters embody the Amish concept of accepting everything, including tragedy and loss, as God’s will — a concept difficult for many Englischers to understand, but one Davids conveys skillfully.
