The second in the Hard to Get series is filled with no-holds-barred sex, including paddling, handcuffs and “public displays of affection,” which will have readers reaching for a fan or a long, cold drink. But when Rainey’s story leaves the bedroom, the characters and plot lose their pizzazz.
Deanna Harrison is more than attracted to Jonas Phoenix, but he’s stayed away because she’s his best friend’s younger sister. Now, with both of them older and wiser, they are ready to indulge in a weekend of mind-blowing sex, which leaves Deanna wanting more of him in and out of bed. At home the two are at odds when Jonas, who works as a P.I., demands Deanna drop a new interior design client whom Jonas suspects is a drug lord. Then the danger he feared finds them, and they learn that loving each other is the most important thing. (APHRODISIA, Nov., 256 pp., $14.00)
