Armintrout continues her Blood Ties series with style and verve, taking the reader to a completely convincing but alien world where anything can -- and does -- happen. There are touches of wild humor, and Carrie's first-person passages give it immediacy.

Two months ago, Dr. Carrie Ames was attacked by a vampire named Cyrus in the hospital morgue where she worked. Since then, her life has taken an interesting turn. She's become a vampire, died, been re-sired and killed Cyrus --
all with vampire and renegade vampire hunter Nathan Galbraith.

Now Cyrus has been resurrected,
and his father -- aka the Soul Eater --
has turned Nathan into a monster. Carrie must round up Cyrus and find Nathan before the Voluntary Vampire Extinction Movement exterminates him. In the meantime, staying alive -- or is that undead? -- is the real challenge.
