The first story in the Black Stockings Society series, Power Play (4), is wonderfully told by Dara Girard. Her portrayal of characters dealing with self-esteem issues rings true. Mary Reyland is accustomed to being pushed around, taken advantage of at work and mistreated in her relationships. She's invited to join a secret society that stresses the importance of wearing the stockings provided for important meetings, both business and personal. Edmund Davis chose Mary for a project because he thought she'd be a pushover. But he finds himself attracted to her and must decide how far to take things with Mary as she deals with the changes in her life.
