Widowed after a brief marriage to a soldier, Amber Woodworth now faces parenthood the same way her mother did—alone. The last thing she wants is a new relationship, but Amber's still susceptible to the nice-guy charms of her neighbor, firefighter Adam Carruthers. Though he's obviously interested in Amber, Adam makes it clear that he's not willing to play substitute daddy. That's fine by her, because his job's a deal breaker as far as Amber's concerned. Because of its timely subject matter, Barbara McMahon's Pregnant: Father Needed (4) will touch many hearts. The characters are nicely developed too—especially the overbearing mother-in-law.
