THE PRODIGAL SON (4) by Beth Andrews: Forced to stay on as a partner at his family’s winery, Matt Sheppard works and clashes with Connie Henkel, a vintner who’s worked for his family for years. Matt discovers that he doesn’t mind being home half as much as he thought he would, and Connie and her two young daughters are a big part of his feelings. Andrews does a great job writing real characters with real chemistry. Matt and Connie are clearly drawn to one another. Additionally, their individual resentments — Matt’s over being forced home and Connie’s over losing her chance at a partnership in the winery — are quite accurately depicted.
