Green’s imagination seems boundless, and this eighth installment of his snarky, dark paranormal noir Eddie Drood series is only further proof of that. Green also manages to weave genuinely moving moments and deeply poignant relationships into the colorful and irresistibly humorous scenes, creating a story that is superbly well balanced and instantly engaging. The stakes just keep rising in this book, especially for Eddie’s personal life, which keeps a steady pace, consistent building of tension and a high pitch throughout, and setting the stage for future installments of this inventive series.

Life as a Drood is never easy, especially for Eddie Drood, sometimes known as Shaman Bond. But recently, things have been getting even worse. After yet another attempt on his life, Eddie learns his grandfather has been murdered and his parents have gone missing. If he has any hope of finding and saving them, Eddie must locate an ancient object called the Lazarus Stone in the hold of the fantastically powerful Lady Faire. But the stone itself is only the beginning of Eddie’s problems; with the power of the stone comes the power to change history itself, and the potential to raise all manner of ghosts from the past.
