When Lianor D'Afonso's friend and boss, Mallory Ellis, the head of Lady Windemere cosmetics, visits her while on a business trip, she's just in time to save Lianor's niece Apolonia from drowning. After bonding with the girl, Mallory agrees to be her nanny temporarily. Apolonia's father, Rafael, is full of gratitude—and attracted to this dynamic woman. Rafael's Convenient Proposal (1) by Rebecca Winters opens with an interesting premise and a strong heroine but quickly reverses gears, delving into melodrama and implausibility. It seems unlikely that an executive would agree to play babysitter for six months, and it's odd that Rafael doesn't support his own sister's career aspirations, yet respects Mallory's accomplishments.
