WHEW! What a nail-biter. Schmidlin hits one out of the ballpark in this suspenseful read. It has a little something for everyone: a great romance, a surprise sibling and a stalker plotline that will keep you up until the last page is read and then have you rushing to make sure your doors and windows are locked.

Trisha Kourtz, a flower shop owner, has recently lost her mother to cancer and now her father is succumbing to the same horrible disease. When she’s hit by a car, handsome paramedic Blake Mitchell responds to the call and sparks fly. When she returns home after the accident, Trisha’s father tells her on his deathbed that she has an older brother she never knew about, the result of a rape when her mother was 13. The baby was given up for adoption at birth, so imagine Trisha’s shock when he shows up at her door before she can even begin a search for him. Soon Trisha is dealing with a new love, a new brother and a demented stalker who seems determined to drive Trisha insane before he kills her. (WILD ROSE, May, 314 pp., $14.99)
