RANCH AT RIVER’S END (4) by Brenda Mott: Doctor Jordan Drake meets Darci Taylor when she moves to River’s End with her 13-year-old son, Chris, who brings a fake gun to school because he’s been tormented by cyberbullies. Worried about his daughter, 13-year-old Michaela, who was wounded in the armed robbery in which her mother died, Jordan is reluctant to get involved with Darci. Mott deals nicely with complex, scary issues. Chris’ anxiety over bullying rings true, as does Michaela’s sorrow about adding to his problems. Mott doesn’t gloss over her characters’ troubles in the story; she finds solutions to them.
