An anonymous e-mail gives diplomatic security agent Maggie Spencer the location of Nick Janssen, a most-wanted fugitive responsible for many crimes, including the near-fatal shooting of U.S. Marshal Rob Dunnemore. When Janssen is captured, Rob persuades his boss to send him to Holland to check out Maggie—and the tip's origin.

Shortly after Rob arrives, one of Maggie's colleagues is murdered, and she makes contact with an old man claiming to have knowledge germane to the Janssen case. Back in the States, Maggie looks into the matter, unknow-ingly putting herself—and Rob—in the sights of a hired killer. Only their combined skills can save them, and reveal the true extent of Janssen's evil.

The Rapids is clever and intricately-plotted, and the sexual tension between Maggie and Rob is nearly tangible. One can only hope that the next book in the series will be available soon! (Dec., 384 pp., $6.99)
