At last Ione delivers the book fans have been clamoring for: the story of Reaver and Harvester. True to form, this relationship is a hot mess — in every sense. Ione’s Demonica world continues to be both rich and gritty, not to mention populated with memorable characters. Like a fine wine, this series is aging spectacularly!
To say that angel Reaver has a checkered past is quite the understatement. In fact, due to his actions, his entire earlier existence as the battle angel Yenrieth was wiped from the minds of everyone, including his children (the Horsemen of the Apocalypse). Fallen angel Harvester has sacrificed everything to protect the Horsemen and save the world. She has spent a millennium as an undercover agent working against Satan, but Harvester’s cover was blown and now she is doomed to endless torture at the hands of Satan. With the Archangels forbidding any rescue attempt, Reaver decides to mount his own mission to Hell to snatch the irritating fallen angel from Satan’s grasp. This could be a one-way ticket, but Reaver has a debt to settle. (GRAND CENTRAL, Dec., 416 pp., $8.00)
