Fans of this series, who have been waiting over a year for this latest installment, may be disappointed. The main plot consists of a complex mystery and Onca and Kim’s relationship feels like an afterthought. Fans may be put off by some of the racial stereotyping that appears even on a distant planet in a time far in the future. While the sex is hot and the mystery intriguing, this one falls short of the excitement this series is known for. New readers will likely have a very hard time keeping track of all the characters and their roles.

Onca is the only one left at his brothel and he’s looking forward to an indefinite break when he meets Kim, the first female of his kind he’s encountered in years. He’s drawn to her, but feels she’ll be better off with another. Still, he can’t help but assist her in looking for her missing friends. He wants to do the right thing, even if that means starting a war. (SOURCEBOOKS, Jul., 416 pp., $7.99)
