Image of Red (Dead World, Book 1)

The world as we know it has been destroyed in this post-apocalyptic thriller. The thirst for power never dies, but gutsy heroine Gina refuses to let that stop her. Summers does a good job laying out the backstory for her new world order, illustrating the dangerous times her protagonists live in. The first-person rantings from the deranged serial killer add a frightening layer to an already gritty thriller. Very good stuff, indeed!

International Police Tactical Team member Gina Santiago is positive that it wasn't wild animals that killed the woman in the Republic of Arizona. Could it have been one of the legendary Others, creatures created in U.S. labs to be super-soldiers before the war? Supposedly they were all destroyed, but Gina has her doubts. Refusing to let the matter die, she takes a vacation and follows the trail to the small border town of Nuria. Gina suspects that sexy Sherriff Morgan Hunter knows more than he is telling -- what she doesn't realize is that she carries a dark secret inside herself as well.
