American P.I. Leo McKenzie wants to know who killed his brother Guy, and the only suspect he has is Jennifer Rowan, an antiques dealer who fled the scene. Pretty soon he's headed for a monastery on the Yorkshire moors, where he's stranded in a blizzard with Jenny and a handful of other visitors to the castle. As the storm escalates outside, inside the murder of a monk draws Leo and Jenny into the mystery of a holy relic. Part Maltese Falcon and part Ten Little Indians, Jean Barrett's To the Rescue (4.5) is a riveting read with intriguing characters.
