Lawyer Lizzie Gilbred and drifter/musician Patrick Gauge have little in common besides their abode. Gauge rents Lizzie's garage apartment. But both also suffer because of past mistakes. Gauge's are greater and resulted in the loss of his only real home. He and Lizzie connect, but can a man who has always been a loner learn to become part of couple? Restless (4.5), by Tori Carrington, is unusual in its depiction of Gauge's wonderful development and growth. He is a great hero, deeply wounded but strong. This is a completely satisfying and emotional read -- complicated and impossible to put down.
