The dynamite writing team of Cast and Cast continues to add layers to the House of Night world and its characters, exposing them all to treachery and peril. While they might have won a battle, the war against Neferet and the darkness is ongoing. Zoey and her crew would like to get back to their lives as students but the fates have something else in mind. As in previous books, the tense cliffhanger ending will have readers dying for the next installment.
When Neferet fell and was destroyed, Zoey and the gang had hoped they won their battle against her. But immortal Neferet is not so easily defeated. Coming back to corporeal form will require blood and lives, both of which she is happy to obtain. Unfortunately for the House of Night, Neferet’s killing of a prominent human further widens the schism developing between humans and vampires. Now Zoey and her friends must find a way to stop Neferet and prove to the human population they are not a threat. (ST. MARTIN’S GRIFFIN, Oct., 320 pp., $18.99)
