The Firefighters of Station Five are back and starring in a nicely plotted romance with plenty of hot sex. It has good continuity from the previous stories and a hero and heroine who both have insecurities to overcome. However, the villain is so vindictive and full of hate that he casts a disappointingly dark shadow over the whole story.

The death of Captain Sean Tanner’s wife and children in a car crash pushed him over the edge into alcoholism. Finally accepting his need for help, Sean is back on the job after finishing rehab. His team is happy to have him back, especially Eve Marshall. As he and Eve begin to explore the feelings they have for one another, Sean discovers that the wreck that killed his family was not an accident, and that the person who caused it is still out there. He is not only a terrorist, but a man that Sean once claimed as a friend, someone who was closer to him than a brother — and he’s out for revenge. (SIGNET ECLIPSE, Dec., 320 pp., $7.99)
