Vampire Empire is one of best fantasy series I’ve read, set in a unique post-apocalyptic world. The landscapes, the peoples and the incredible gizmos will attack your senses. Their unforgettable characters will stay with you as the tale unwinds. Reading in order is best: The Rift Walker is book two, pertinent background is lost otherwise.

1870 was the Great Killing, when humans were slaughtered to near extinction by the vast vampire clans. This feisty species hung on by dragging themselves and whatever technology they could to the warmest regions of Earth, where vampires can’t exist. Now in 2020, the race is dependent on an unlikely pair who may just be their salvation in the upcoming vampire risings. Princess Adele of Equitoria awaits her fate in a loveless marriage; the only man she loves and wants is the mysterious Greyfriar. Greyfriar knows Adele is in danger and he will risk everything to save her. He knows together they may just be the redemption the world needs. (PYR, Nov., 402 pp., $16.00)
