Barbara Cohen and her friends grew up in a Washington, D.C., neighborhood after World War II. Now living in North Carolina, her dearest friend Marilyn, who has cancer, needs to tell her something about Penny, another old friend. It isn't long before the secrets of the past transform the present. Riggs Park (4.5) by Ellyn Bache is a strongly written story told carefully via many flashbacks. Barbara is a strong, complicated woman whose viewpoint draws the reader deeply into the lives of these women and their families.
