RISE OF THE POISON MOON
by MaryJanice Davidson, Anthony Alongi

Genre: Young Adult, Urban Fantasy

RT Rating

The previous episode of the Jennifer Scales novels left our heroine, her family and the town of Winoka cut off from the rest of the world by a magical barrier. Cyclical hatred and ancient feuds have kept the Beaststalkers, dragons and werearachnids consumed in a bloody war. Again the tone darkens, and Davidson and Alongi split the story viewpoints among several characters as they experience adventures that may bring both epic danger and tragic loss. Kudos to this terrific storytelling duo!

The pressure on young Ancient Furnace and dragon leader Jennifer is mounting as supplies are running low for those trapped by the magic barrier.

Inside the barrier, Jennifer is fighting against a band of rogue dragons led by Ember, who wants to destroy Jennifer. Outside the barrier former friend and werearachnid Skip Wilson wants to kill them all. Sadly, horrifying loss and sacrifice are becoming all too common in this battle for survival. Will Jennifer ever be able to find a way to save them? (ACE, Aug., 281 pp., $7.99)
