Botanist Dr. Annie Parrish is not about to let anything stop her from making it back up the Rio Negro river to the site where she made her amazing secret discovery. Only allowed back into Brazil after the intervention of Dr. Gabriela Olivera of the River Basin Coalition, Annie risks her life by being there. Her last time in Brazil, she ran afoul of Corsico Vargas, the powerful head of the garimpeiros (gold miners). Annie was tortured and kept in prison for three days before her rescue. If Corsico catches her again, there will be no escape.

The only way back up the river is to hire the legendary Dr. William Sanchez Travers to carry her on his boat. Three years ago the world famous botanist disappeared into the jungle, only to reappear a year later a completely changed man.

William reluctantly agrees to transport Annie, but suspects she is not revealing the true nature of her quest. Since William has his own mission to complete, he hopes that the two don't collide. It is soon apparent that they both will have to deal with the horrific plans of Corsico Vargas and his upcoming "Night of the Devil."
