The seventh entry in Stewart’s Chesapeake Diaries series is a sweet and soulful story about labors of love. Her idyllic small town is populated with multidimensional characters, many of whom will be familiar to series fans. New readers won’t have any trouble settling into St. Dennis, however, or falling for the main couple as they build a future despite past tragedies and disappointments. A whiff of the paranormal only reinforces the power of love to overcome all obstacles, and the promise of upcoming books will have readers eager to return to St. Dennis soon.
After finding her boyfriend in a compromising position, Sophie Enright thinks it’s time for a change in both her life and her location. During a visit to her brother in St. Dennis, Md., she comes across a shuttered restaurant and decides to purchase it. But someone else had his eye on the property: Jason Bowers, whose vision for his landscaping company involved acquiring that land. What begins as a relationship of contentious neighbors soon becomes something more, forcing Sophie to decide what her heart truly desires. (BALLANTINE, Feb., 432 pp., $7.99)
