As indicated by the three Xs in the title, this novel, a Miami whirlwind of sex, sin and stripping, is not meant for any reader under 18.

The story follows Desiree, also referred to as Desire and Dez, a runaway from New York who comes to Miami to start a new life. Desiree indulges in stripping, prostitution and modeling before gaining a spot in the hip-hop world where she feels she belongs.

Smith does an excellent job of chronicling the mental and spiritual growth of Desiree, best friend Ginger, boyfriend Bentley and boss Sparks. In her debut novel, she stresses the importance of following your dreams and facing each obstacle and consequence head on. (Jul., 321 pp., $13.95)
