THE ROSE THRONE
Harrison’s latest, highlighting moments in the lives of two very different princesses, is a refreshingly different YA novel. The narrators are strong and independent. Not only are they likable, but they demand respect. The magic is interesting, but what really stands out is the political intrigue of court life. Slightly off pacing and an inconclusive ending mar an otherwise wonderful tale.
Princesses Ailsbet and Issa live in neighboring kingdoms on the brink of war. Brought together by a political engagement, they must deal with court life, where gossip is rampant and one wrong word means death. They’re forced to make choices they never could have anticipated.
