Thirty years ago, NASCAR crew chief Hugo Murphy's wife, Sylvie Ketchum,
left him, and her young daughter Kim, abruptly. Now Kim needs a kidney transplant, and Hugo learns Sylvie is her "anonymous" donor. Facing the truth about the disturbing reasons behind Sylvie's disappearance is hard for Hugo, and almost impossible for Kim. It's not long until Hugo realizes he still loves Sylvie, who also still has feelings for him. But has the past robbed them of a future? Ken Casper's Running on Empty (3) is fast paced and well plotted, but the heavy emphasis on story leaves little time for romance.
