Rush is different from most YA offerings today, making it all the more exciting. At first, readers may be skeptical about the plot; quickly, however, the story and the world deepen, and you’ll fall head over heels in love. Miki and Jackson are the real highlight: Miki is realistic, brave and loyal and the mysterious Jackson will keep readers entranced. The addictive plot, fresh setting and amazing characters create a novel you’ll stay up late to finish.
Miki Jones is a typical teen, unable to shake the feeling that she’s a little bit different. Then she discovers that she is different when she’s pulled through time and space into a deadly war against the Drau — aliens intent on destroying the planet. At first it seems like a game, until Miki and her team are thrown out on missions with fatal consequences. Only Jackson Tate, the group leader, seems to have some answers. Yet he seems unable to share them — until he risks everything to help Miki stay alive. (KATHERINE TEGEN, Jun., 368 pp., $17.99, ISBN: 9780062192134, HC, 14 & Up)
