The murky, gritty mood of the Dark Mission novels remains strong in this fourth offering. Fans of the series who appreciate the intensity of Cooper’s post-apocalyptic Seattle will find everything they’ve come to expect and more. Cooper has a gift for creating characters with depth, and the ongoing plot keeps the reader engaged. The relationship between the hunter and the hunted is the most passionate and dangerous ever.

Parker Adams has always towed the line. This time the Mission puts her face-to-face with an adversary who embodies everything she’s been trained to handle and has grown to hate. Double agent, cold-blooded killer and witch Simon Wells has enticed Parker in ways she never knew possible. Every encounter makes it harder for her to resist the passion Simon brings to the surface. Simon is determined to make Parker his, but attempting to navigate the politics of their world could be the end of her. (AVON, Oct., 384 pp., $7.99)
