SAFE HARBOR (4) by Hope White: Personal assistant Nicole Harris is found hiding in a closet, after overhearing entrepreneur Edward Lange get shot. She is engulfed by memories of her traumatic childhood at the hands of her abusive father. Detective Alex Donovan vows to protect her, even from the FBI, as she is their only witness. Alex, who carries a lot of guilt from his own past, worries about his ability to keep her safe. Will they be able to help each other heal? Well-developed characters, including secondary ones, demonstrate that independence is a good thing, but we still need to rely on God to help us confront and heal from our emotional wounds.
