A SAFE PLACE (4) by Margaret Watson: When Frankie Devereux, owner of FreeZone, a safe meeting place for teens, learns that the man who tried to sexually abuse her when she was a teen runaway is now head of Child Services, she’s both appalled and determined to bring him down. But when he retaliates by trying to shut her program down, she finds help from Cal Stewart, the football player assigned to community service at FreeZone after being arrested for fighting. Watson’s characterization makes this story shine. Cal especially shows real growth, and Frankie’s determination and spunk make her quite likeable.
